Car Rental

for Freedom and Mobility

There must be at least 50 car rental places in Tobago. About six or 8 of these are set up within 100 yards of the airport. There are scores of others within walking distance. The place where you are to stay may have their own. Many car rental outfits are not large establishments. They may have one or two vehicles. Their terms may be more flexible, too.

You could rent a small vehicle, such as a Hyundai. Or you could go for a bigger sedan. Or you could rent a jeep. Which is really not a jeep at all. But any Suzuki that looks like it is a 4 by 4 and has a canvas top is called a jeep.

You can expect to pay between $275 and $500 TT per day, depending on what you rent, with an additional $10 to $20 Collision Damage Waiver. Prudence suggests you make sure of the terms before you strike an agreement.

Jeeps give you a more bumpy ride. But you can get up to eight people into some of them. And you could remove or fold back the canvas top and revel in the breeze and the landscape and the sun. They will also take you over rough terrain.

Sedan models are more conventional and smoother, but will limit to an extent the places you can go. But not so much that you can't enjoy the island. You may have the added advantage of air-conditioning.
